Thanks, but our hearts are set on SA and we feel like we must honour the 2-year rule.

I don't know what to do! Do we have to go for the 175 now? Is there no point in hanging on and hoping these occupations will come back on the list?

I guess it might come back on if some folk don't lodge within the 30 days, but I imagine that there is a backlog of applications that didn't make it (we haven't even applied yet - still awaiting skills assessment) so I doubt that would give us a shot. :(

I wonder why your hearts are set on SA ? From my standpoint, there are less jobb opportunities in comparison with VIC, for instance. I investigated seek.com.au in order to find a job for a 'voice engineer' position yesterday, and I found just about 3 or 5 appropriate offers. For example, the Melbourne job marjket offers me about 20-30 similar positions. I don't mind living in Adelaide, especially when Immigration SA no more requires IELTS 7 in each band, but if I can't find a job, I'll be in tough conditions.

We have a job because we run our own business. Hearts are set on SA because of schools, climate, landscape, lower cost of living, classical architecture, more laid back lifestyle/traditional values, previous good experiences there, etc, etc.

Understand. It does matter.

Good on you Oidara for having some morals and backbone - unfortunately I think thats the problem with the UK, in that all the people who do actually have some moral fibre are trying to leave the country lol.

The 175 isn't the worst thing in the world - tbh, if you've gone off list now it might take about the same time line for both. And you never know if the 175s are going to speed up as they plough through the back log as well - stranger things have happened (our timeline for eg!). Everything in life for a reason - it may well be by the time you get your skills assessment back, just at that time your profession comes back as available on SA list and everything works out beautifully - it has a funny way of doing so in life (even if it doesn't feel like it at the time).

Fingers crossed for you in every respect :)

Thanks, Adelaide_bound. Feeling pretty down about it today. I had just finished writing a beautifully worded (if I do say so myself!) bit of prose for SA last night so that our application would be ready to go as soon as we hear from ACS, and then we woke up to this news this morning. Grrr!

If I could be confident that the 175 would take 10 months, I'd be happy enough, but I am being advised to expect 18 which is hard to swallow.

Does anyone know if this means 100% that the special conditions occupations won't be available again until next July?

Also, we're wondering about reapplying to ACS for a different occupation (as anyone in IT knows, there is a lot of crossover between the different jobs), but is it pretty likely that all ICT jobs are likely to become unavailable shortly???

Congratulations to all of you who got some good news today, by the way!

I think that any migration agent will tell you to think eighteen months and if you get less, it's a bonus.

Don't forget that the expression of interest comes in next July so whatever you do, please get your visa in by then.

You must also take the positives from this situation:

1. 176 Visas are quoted by DIAC as taking 12 months. Only recently are they going so fast, and I don't honestly expect that to continue forever.

2. 175's are only taking slightly longer at an official estimate of 18 months.

3. Your'e eligible to apply!! There are so many people that can't apply as their occupation isn't on the list, or applied then got bumped to category five and are now stuck...

I guess I'm saying keep positive Oidara...it will happen. It's the most stressful thing ever all this waiting...our skills assessment alone seemed to take forever, and the SA SS wait is the most tense I've ever felt!
